Gas Prices and The Economy

I think gas prices went down because the demand for it is high and people can't afford to buy high price gas. I think the economy is beginning to do better and that the government is starting to get a grip on things. With the rate this country was going at, it would be hard to survive. All the prices would increase on everything and no one would be able to afford anything. It would probably be almost impossible to live. 

City Clean Up

Today I was walking to school and as I was walking I noticed there was trash everywhere. As I walked down the street I began to walk in pools of trash. It literately covered my shoes. I was disgusted. How could the people of Philadelphia let the city get so polluted. I think the city should do a clean up or have some type of meeting to talk about how polluted the city is becoming a huge trash can. I think the city should put trash cans on every street corner or something that will help this trash problem.

Supply And Demand

I never realized how much supply and demand effected my life until one day I went to buy a snack from the store. I always buy the same exact thing from the same exact store and it is always the same exact price.  I got the snack and went to pay for it. Oddly enough I had to pay 85 cents instead of 75 cent. I was upset because I had a 5 dollar bill and 75 cents in my pocket. Also because the price had increased. I figured it was because there was a high demand for the snack, the suppliers raised the price. They may have figured people would be willing to buy their good, even if the price was higher. They were correct because I still buy that exact snack when I go to that exact store, but this time at their new price of 85 cents.

Poor Polution

This morning when I was walking to school I saw a poor man collecting cans. I wasn't about to ask him what he was doing because I don't talk to strangers. I figured that he was either, A. collecting cans to cash in for money, or B. cleaning up the trashy streets. I decided to choose option C. all of the above. I think maybe he was trying to keep the streets clean and at the same time benefit from it. I guess going green is classified for everyone. I assumed that the poor or less fortunate people did feel the need to clean up the community. It makes me feel good to know that EVERYONE takes the initative to clean up the enviroment.

Temple Archives

At the temple university my historical context group and i looked at pictures from 1977 of Dick Clark hosting american  bandstand. I also looked at pictures of the community and the EL when it was running over ground in 1955. I had  a great time looking at the pictures and I think i'd like to go back to the urban archives again.

Advantages

This week I learned about two different kinds of advantages. 

Absolute advantage: is the ability to produce a good using fewer inputs than another producer.

Comparative advantage: is the ability to produce a good at a lower opportunity cost than another producer.

With what I've learned about the advantages I was able to get a good idea of what the production possibilities frontier was and how it works.

Group

In my historical context group I analyzed recent trends in the West Philadelphia neighborhood. It ranged from Market population trends to Market household income. There were alot of increases and decreases between 1990 and 2000. With the data I collected and analyzed I will have a sense of what has been going on in the neighborhood in the past. With that, I can move on and be able to take the next step.
